Low bookcase with central projection and three doors. It features tortoiseshell marquetry on a brass counterpart, decorated with foliage, garlands, mantling, tendrils and scrolls, with blackened wood veneers and brass fillets. Drop base resting on eight "toupies" feet. Ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze, including masks of Satyr and Daphne, rosettes, scrolls, gadroon friezes, oves and spearheads, and framing rods. Black marble top. Stamped several times with A. BASTET LYON. Louis XIV style, late 19th - early 20th century. H: 113.5 W: 154.5 D: 49 cm (marble damaged, some oxidation to gilding) Antoine BASTET (1864-1935), cabinetmaker and furniture manufacturer, founded in 1845 in Lyon.
