# Michel DUFET (1888-1985) : Rectangular cabinet in brown lacquered wood opening with a wide central medallion leaf, stylized with a black and gold lacquered fountain. Rectangular base underlined by a gilded belt. Swollen legs. Art Deco period, circa 1920. H : 200 W : 150 D : 50 cm. Provenance: Galerie Makassar Paris, purchased in 1989. A student of painting and architecture at the Ecole supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Michel Dufet founded the MAM (Meubles Artistiques Modernes) workshop in 1913, and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français the following year. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, before taking over the management of "Red Star", South America's leading interior design firm. Between 1928 and 1939, he directed the Bûcheron art studio and exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. Michel Dufet received major official commissions and took part in decorating private yachts and liners, including the Paris (1921), the Ile-de-France (1927) and the Normandie (1935).
